Coming Of Age Poem by Lady Pattianna Urasz

Coming Of Age

Rating: 5.0

At five we look at our older sister or brother
And dream of the day we too are old enough and come of age,
But we are told to slow down and relax, by our Mother.
Our day will come when we grow too and earn our wage.

Time moves along and before you know you're off to school.
Reading, writing, ten times eight and History,
Capitol cities, longitude, latitude, the Golden Rule,
High School Prom, exams, driving, Pharamonial mystery.

Our Mothers set the stage for our Coming of age
With its many stops and starts along the way.
But when we finally get there somebody turned the page
Only to discover we were just beginning 'our new day'.

Engagement, marriage, children, divorce,
Life can throw it at you with such force.
Feeling like you're locked inside a cage
Yet it's all a part of our 'Coming of Age'.

Being promoted, demoted, or losing a job,
Breaking a tooth eating corn-on-the-cob.
Our thirties, then forties, fifties and sixties,
We haven't a clue what to do now to fix these.

Our days are coming to their close
We want to get up, instead we just dose.
And finally we understand
That during all these years so grand.
They were only a prelude to our 'Coming of Age'
When we are 'Long in the Tooth' and a 'Worldly Wise Sage'.

A very nice description of sequelae of patterns of life...I agree that whatever we do or perform in our childhood, teenage and especially the age of productivity provide us with the maturity we gain with the passage of time and introduce us to the old age so that we could guide the new generations about the modalities of this insolent society and pass on our conclusions to them so that we could be remembered and die with a personality..............10/10 Best Wishes Sameer
