We all commit ourselves to something
whether it be a person or work.
They become the most important thing
that will enter our lives.
We cherish them with our heart
from our beginning to the end
and woe be tide if someone
tries to take them away.
We'll fight to our dying breath
to keep them for our own.
For we have the commitment
that comes but once in our lives.

I would like to translate this poem
Good poem. I like the ideas expressed and the style is very good. Not a criticism but a sincere small suggestion, David: if we can leave out something and thing out of the first three lines, I think the poetic value would increase a bit (e.g. We all make to ourselves a commitment whether it be a person or work. They become of utmost importance Not sure, in the end the poet himself knows best.
