Communion. Poem by Michael Walker

Communion.

J'essayais d'arriver a comprendre
De quoi il s'agissait
Mais je ne pouvais comprendre
De quoi il s'agissait
J'y renoncai donc et j'allai
Prendre le sacrement
Et quand je le pris
Je me sentais bien en criant!

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
A genuine religious experience, which Hughes felt and wrote down for permanence. The belief involved in taking communion cannot be explained logically: It can only be experienced. Shouting for joy is common in some Protestant churches.
