Condescension Poem by Godwin Nnanna

Condescension

Rating: 5.0

Condescension - that old repulsive attitude
I hate it like no other
The feeling that they are inferior
That you are special and they ain't
That you have it all and they have nothing
Forgetting the rich also cry

Condescension is a lie told in a subtle dangerous way
A lie told deceivingly
Told to no other but self
But how can one lie to self and yet not know it
Exactly the delusion in condescension
He who Ani will destroy she first makes mad

You tell yourself what you want to hear
Not what you should hear
You bask in the euphoria of a reality that never was
A world that only exists in your feeble imagination
Your pride-infested hallucination
A truth that never will be

Stop! stop your patronizing superiority
Quit being who you are not
Step into your abode, into your innermost
Listen to yourself and hear the echo of your lies
Look yourself in the mirror and say ‘though it hurts
And could be utterly deflating
I shall speak the truth to me for once.'

Listen to yourself and hear the echo of your lies. Then only you will become able to know about this. An amazing poem is brilliantly penned on egoism and this is thought provoking.10
