Consciousness Survives Death Poem by Paul Hartal

Consciousness Survives Death

Rating: 5.0

A light vernal wind swept through the evening street.
They sat on the balcony drinking coffee.

"The conscious experience", he said, "the sense of self
and our soul undergo transformations but they survive death."

"You sound so sure but how can you know this? ", she objected.

"I cannot prove this, of course", he said, " but I believe it.

"Well, that is not good enough", she said. "You need to present
the evidence for your bold assertion, if you want to convince me."

"And I offer some evidence", he said. "Quantum Theory supports
the belief that life is a transformation that advances to another
state of being. The soul is eternal and continues to exist
on a quantum level. Consciousness creates reality.
All our thoughts and feelings survive in the quantum repository
of the cosmos."

"Quite interesting", she said. "But, you know, I'm a hardcore skeptic."

"Well, for believers there are no questions and for non-believers
there are no answers", he said. "Nevertheless, let me add something
that might precipitate a change in your way of thinking:
Consider that our mental life cannot depend entirely
on the functioning of brain neurons, a community of some 100 billion
bits of jelly. All the atoms in our body are replaced completely
over time and therefore our 'software', our specific consciousness,
our individual memories and records of our personal experience
cannot be identical with the 'hardware' of the body.
In any case, death remains a total mystery
and it transcends the whole empirical pudding."
