Content Is Bliss

Rating: 5.0

In the arm chair, she sits, weary and withered
This has been her place for years now.
Saying her prayers, reading a book,
while watching serials on television.

The humdrum of existence, the ups and downs,
the joys of her children growing and leaving,
to settle down in their lives, make a mark for themselves,
She sits alone in the empty nest.

From a carefree childhood onto marriage,
adapting and accommodating herself in a joint family,
serving husband, in-laws and children dutifully,
She had managed it all beautifully.

There was never any time to think or brood,
never a moment to catch a nap,
constantly on her foot dancing to people’s tunes.
Time now weighs heavily upon her!

Her beloved companion of fifty odd years
had passed away a few years ago.
Suddenly a calamity had struck her!
She was unprepared, shaken and disillusioned.

Slowly she gathered the remaining strands,
Composed herself, accepted the reality.
Took charge of the change with poise,
Life had to go on!

Beyond her balcony, she sees the drum stick tree
Lush and green, swaying in the gently breeze.
The pale white flowers have just come!
Till yesterday, there were only tender leaves.

The ever changing face of Nature-
Her heart blissful and content.
Filled with peace, she says a silent prayer,
Reclines in the arm chair, eyes close.
