Cookie Cutter Arms Poem by katie norton

Cookie Cutter Arms

A star was formed
In red
Along her arm
From the knife
She bled
A name
Carved in her wrist
The boy she thought she loved
A date carved in her thigh
The one of her mom and dad
Her story written on her body
Of the abuse that led
Led her to the cutting
And the sorrow filled nights
When her sadness came up to breath
In the form of the red tears
She watched the blood drip to the floor
And then came up for more
She cut from left to right
And up and down
She cut her flesh and all around
She wanted no more pain
At least for it to dull
But the cuts only numbed her
When the abuse started again
He smacked and he punched
And threw and he lunged
She cut and she cried
And wrote and died inside
But the day she cut so deep
She screamed
Her mom sat her down
The story layer on the bed
The abuse
The violence
The arms
The tears
And now she knows it’s bad
She knew it was wrong
But would she have ever gone
To help from someone else
No
But now he is gone
And she is all done
With the cuts along her arms
She speaks to kids all over and beyond
And she starts with
I use to have cookie cutter arms
