Cotton Remains Cotton Poem by Abrahaley Habte

Cotton Remains Cotton

Rating: 5.0

Cotton remains cotton
Whether it is black or white
White - paper like
Or white like light.
Coal remains the same
If dyed white or pitch black
Like the dark night.
What matters is the substance
Whether coal could burn
And give warmth;
And cotton could be woven
Into a warm clothing.
Not whether it is black or white.

The colour of one's skin is immaterial, what matters is whether one is a worthy individual. Your employment of appropriate similes to drive home the essence of the poem is quite poetically remarkable. A lovely piece of poetry, well articulated and insightfully penned in poetic diction with conviction. Thanks for sharing Abrahaley. Please read my poem MANDELA - THE IMMORTAL ICON.

In deed, what matters is the substance, not color or race. Excellently written poem. Keep it up Abrahaley! Thumbs Up!

A twist on the 'rose by any other name' concept. Tweaked (I believe) to be relevant to racial equality. Artfully done Abrahaley. Thanks for sharing
