Couldn't Quit Poem by Ray Hansell

Couldn't Quit

Rating: 5.0

I quit smoking cigarettes
So many years ago
I wish so many others
Could some how let go

But there are many people
Who can't throw them away
They are the one's slowly dying
Each and every day

I have a family member
Who's now on her death bed
Because she wouldn't listen
To all the warning that were said

She has lost so much weight
In this losing fight
I think to myself
This just can't be right

But, she's the one who chose
To keep smoking cigarettes
I'm sure right now she harbors
So many regrets

I do wish there was a time
When she had thrown them away
But she kept right on smoking
Almost until her dying day

It's so sad to see this ending
But there's not much anyone can do
I just hope and pray what happened to her
Other families never have to go through
