Couples Ministry Poem by Luke Easter

Couples Ministry

Howard and Betty, Deacon Davis’ house,
Only thing missing was the church mouse,
End of every year it’s a special ministry,
Praise the Lord, as the good time is free.

Friday night in Maple Heights,12/28/2007,
Thanks for another year our Father in heaven,
Yes, there was a multitude of hugging & kissin,
And where church folk gather, plenty of chicken.

Pastor Williams played the piano and he sang,
A white elephant gift everyone had to bring,
Understand that means there are not a lot of goodies,
Deacon Parks took home a pair of light blue footies.

This is not to be confused with a meeting of the minds,
Because a gift like that should have been left behind,
And to make this seem like even more of a disaster,
Jokingly, someone said it was brought by the pastor,

Gene was saddled with a gift he obtained long ago,
Well Deacon Fuqua, you must reap what you sow,
Actually it was special, purchased in the Holy Land,
Where our Lord & Savior walked in the desert sand.

A touching moment was telling something exciting,
Some confessions almost called for softer lighting,
James and Betty, an astounding 50 years of marriage,
Stanley loved Val’s sensually pushing a baby carriage.

Certainly many were touching and some were truly funny,
Everybody said, “yes dear” when hearing the word honey,
Although that might be an exaggeration it was said sincerely,
How about more than once a year for the couple’s ministry?

Fellowship of celebration, a good time enjoyed by all,
With lots of gifts where some were big, some were small,
But, everyone was in agreement about the greatest one,
John 3: 16, 'God so loved the world He sent His only Son.'
