Cry Poem by Cheryl Cheng

Cry

Beeping Signals
A woman on a bed
Weak and frail
The wails of her baby
Healthy and close by
Her slender hands
Reach out for
The roughened palms
Of her spouse
Hold them tightly
Her mouth moves
Whispers float out
Her eyelids flutter
One last smile
Before her hand drops
She is still.
She is gone.
Man and baby
Cry together
For the loss of a mother
In a birth gone wrong.
