Curtains Poem by Trevor Opfer

Curtains

Why do we use certain curtains these days?
We block out the light we need, so amazed.
That's right, we need light and we seal it out,
Tell me or not, how did this come about?
I find items that I find very common and easy to notice,
Yet sometimes we go through life without them in focus.
Despite are human nature, which has been so far down,
We need these simple but so easy to obtain sounds.
I for one note the things I take for granted.
Even the very cloths on my back turn me slanted.
Because I adjust myself to thinking about other people,
They cannot claim this items like I can, too steeple.
So the next time, and I mean the next damn time,
You feel like you have it too hard, look around, you're fine.
The world is full of its bits and pieces that are full of burden.
So instead, be grateful for everything. Even those silly curtains.

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
I wrote this poem one afternoon after a windstorm blew down my curtains. I didn't realize that they were blocking the flash of lightning all night and I was pretty grateful for that. So I wrote this for the little items that we take for granted.
