Cuscuta The Creeper Incognito (Vine Sans Roots And Buds) Poem by Jayatissa K. Liyanage

Cuscuta The Creeper Incognito (Vine Sans Roots And Buds)

Sounds, as per name
A vine par eye soother
Lacking apparent roots, or buds, and
Even the green matter unique to plants

Yet sitting glued on, in comfort
Outshines in gold hue
Outgrows almost instantaneously
Entangles and smothers incognizantly

Subjugating the hosted prey
Displays the horrendous potential of a
Parasitic being

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
This is a parasitic plant in the family Convolvulaceae, of which over 150 species have been identified. It is a total parasite lacking even chlorophyll. Some varieties seem to be in use in traditional medical treatment. Apart from this, no other use is made of this plant. In fact it is a menace in agriculture.

This plant affords a comparison with some elements in the human society as well. Purpose of this poem, on the face of is to highlight some intricacies in the manner in which the nature balances itself. Underneath, I am hinting on the importance to be aware of such deceiving characters in the society.
