Dangerous Obsession Poem by Onareen Ferdinand

Dangerous Obsession

I keep looking at you
Wishing you had never been.

It's not your beauty that captivates me.
It's the sharp look in your eyes,
The winks, the laughs,
The fleeting touches,
Your boisterous beauty within.
No one ever taught you
Not to be you-
Unashamed and volatile is you.
Yet inside of you
Is a masculine softness you deny.
You expose affection
Sparingly;
And if I try to touch it
You immediately retract into your masculine mould.

I fell for you when I shouldn't.
I am in a dangerous whirlpool
While you are on dry shore.
I long for you
When I shouldn't.

Why did you occupy my heart,
When we can never be?
Why did you occupy my mind?

I am too weak to be set free.
