Dark Eyed Girls Poem by Dean Meredith

Dark Eyed Girls

Dark eyed girls
Invading my world
With their dark hair to match
I suppose it's their world now
And I a mere interloper
Why must they be so exotically beautiful?
So magically ravishing in their silent glory
The redheads with their brown olive eyes
The brunettes with their black ones
And I a mere interloper
Rowing them down my rivers
Showing them my crooked streams
Their flowing hair & bewitching eyes like dreams
And the countryside surrounding us
Like an art exhibition in their honor
And I a lone traveler daring to visit
Times have changed with them & their hairs & eyes
Blonde and blue were yesterday's shades & sparkles
Now they are rarer than rowing boats
And I am lost without oars
In the presence of far too much singing
