Darkest Hour Poem by Melanie Molyneaux

Darkest Hour

Rating: 5.0

The darkest hour is the hour of victory,
It’s the hour that gives you the strength to shine bright
So that the light can overshadow your misery
Don’t give in and don’t give up
You only have 55 minutes left,
So get up
Don’t go to sleep and don’t say your final goodbyes
One minute had just past by
No, don’t say I can’t or I won’t
Time is still running, so please don’t
You say it’s too much to bear and that your heart is sinking
Stop! Wait! The long hand is still ticking!
That last minute feels as though it’s the slowest minute in your life
But keep fighting until the hand strikes
DING, DONG.DING, DONG
The doors open and it appears to be bright
It was GOD, waiting for you to shine his light
He said, “Always remember faith is your power”
“Good job, my child. You’ve made it through your darkest hour”

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
I wrote this poem when I lost both of my babies. I felt like I wanted to give up, the voice inside of my head kept encouraging me to do otherwise. The tragic loss and memories inspired me to write this poem and I hope it inspires others too.
