Darkness Of The Night Poem by Astell Collins

Darkness Of The Night

Darkness of the night

Not seen but felt
Your courage it would surely melt
As I looked up it is beautified
But as I looked around I am horrified
So in my frightened state I began to run
But it never left me, just covered me down
I tried shouting, I even screamed
But all I saw, all that could be seen
Was a mysterious display of that black screen
I pelted cuffs trying to fight
But that only intensified my fright
I'd pinched myself desiring this theme to be a dream
I even recited a few words hoping to chase away this curse
But that just made it worse
What I thought of last, I should have done first
So I called out to my master
To chase away this disaster
He sent the dawn
And it wasn't long before the darkness was gone
