David Lange (1942-2005) Poem by Francis Duggan

David Lange (1942-2005)

Rating: 2.8

David Lange was a former Prime Minister of New Zealand a noble man he kept his Country free
Of Nuclear plants and deadly Nuclear weapons The World needs more people such as he
Against the weapons of death he made a stand a man who never failed to speak his mind
And though war men by him may have been offended his stand was on behalf of Human kind.

He removed New Zealand from the Anzus Treaty New Zealand they did go it on their own
His decision did offend his powerful former allies to all of the World David Lange made it known
That New Zealand would not be anybody's lackey for the small Nations he struck a huge mental blow
To the super powers he could have acted as subservient but his mental steel and courage he did show.

If every Nation was led by one like David Lange we would have a very peaceful World today
But more want war than peace or so it does seem and the men of war will always have their way
They call their latest wars the wars on terror but violence leads to more violence 'twould seem
And despite all wars the World is now more violent and peace 'twould seem is now a fading dream.

May he now rest in peace brave David Lange his legacy will live forever more
His stand against the deadly Nuclear weapons made him renowned beyond New Zealand's shore
The former leader of a small but a proud Nation to him I dedicate this simple rhyme
When he removed New Zealand from the Anzus treaty he left his footprints in the sands of time.
