Dawn Drive Poem by Midnight Clarity

Dawn Drive

Rating: 5.0

A corner turned,
light floods as dawn
spreads out,
manmade barriers
so bright with sun
they disappear;
sea lounges, flat and pewter,
till it meets the blue and
candyfloss reflections
of the sky
where clouds cast
paths of light across the waters,
making trails that draw the eye
to thoughts of far off lands.
Fresh greens sing with birds
that amble in the road,
puffs of feathers risking
death on this new morning
while cyclists and joggers
use the highway like mack trucks,
ponderous and plodding,
scowling as I pass
white blur running home
before morpheus can catch me
bring me low
with his sweet velvet coils
about my wrists, my neck
my ankles, locking me
to sleep, to rest, to lonely
dreaming tinted
with the sunrise pink,
wrapped in light soaked clouds
dripping sun across the island
to fire up the day.
