Dear Daddy Poem by Jade Innes

Dear Daddy

Hey daddy,
How're you today?

I'm rather curious,
Do you not come back,
For fear of what I'll say?

If that is the case,
You don't have to worry.
Because I won't shout,
I can speak softly.

I just want an explanation,
To stop the 'Why's' circling inside.
Or do you not come back,
For lack of a fatherly mindset?

Was I the mistake,
My mother is always saying?

I just want to talk reasonably.
I want to know your side.
All I've ever been told,
Is just a bunch of lies.

And what about your son?
Do you not hurt inside,
Knowing he was a brave man,
Who had to end his life?

Because when he came back from that war,
He couldnt bare the memories.
He blamed himself,
For all the endless killings.

But I blame you,
Because you were the one,
Who forced him into it.
You said he had to prove himself

Before he'd ever be a son to you.

Now if you read this,
And you can't tell.
How much I hurt,
Well I've been through hell.

You are never here,
And I want to know why?
I pray you read this,
Because I beg from you a reply.
