Dear Friend Poem by Aiswarya Menon

Dear Friend

Don't know whether you will like it
But let me tell you who you were to me
A face to look at, when my heart aches
A face to look for, when i'm in trouble
A hand to pat me, when i'm on cloud nine
A hand to stop me, from doing wrong
And more than anything else
A harbour for my hopes and a grave for my griefs....

I became you, without me knowing it
I peeped into your world and I saw me
But at some point, I saw my own face
Bruised and blue from ambushes
And now I know, you liked me that way..

And slowly your presence became a mere shadow
You made no difference in this world of mine
You became just another face to forget
Someone who didn't care
Because everytime I thought,
You would help me get up from my fall
You just stood and watched, like all others...

I won't call you selfish
One's own life is prior to anything
And I know there's nothing in this world
Called 'friends forever'
You needn't die for me or don't have to sacrifice
But atleast you can pretend to be...my friend...
