Dear South African President Poem by Tebogo Tshegofatso

Dear South African President

Dear President, your shoulders
Must be shaking for this burden,
For the yokes of this nation are
As fetters of bronze on a lisping tongue,
The dry lands we scratch in search
Of tittles and sore divisions look
To you for fertilizers and lasting rain,
Our many anticipations are as a
Woeful plight which tangles you
With every effort to draw away,
The onus has fallen upon your head-
To stir our nation through dark times,
Which seem to compromise the
Fortified values of our fallen men,
Our youth are learning a trade that
Will burn these old bones very soon,
Our mothers that bore us on aching backs
Dread the air their own kids breathe,
And our glorious rainbow fades into a single hue:
This is our nation's dividing sword,
Which, though being only one,
Will again remind us that we have different colors,
And in the midst of these evils,
The blood of our fathers sobs with
Lonely eyebrows and sad cheeks,
Yet the vote of the citizenry is the helm
You must use to pull this big raft
Through these dark corridors here,
So tho the yelping of the opposition
Doesn't smooth out the edges of this tide,
Nor allow you to balance the compass,
Remember to stay the gift of the gab
And let your waves muzzle them,
Let our deep rooted ties entangle
Us in an awe at love and mercy,
So that we break into singing again,
And light up the world with Ubuntu.
