Death Be Proud Poem by Tebogo Tshegofatso

Death Be Proud

Rest in peace, thou sweet!
Death is a friend we must
All embrace and return all
With heavy hearts to dust,
The pain of these you leave
Behind should not make you sob,
Or desire once more to live,
Because death is a friend
Of those whom God loves
And must have before the end,
Paradise can't come to earth
But we who are earthlings to
It must go and through death,
God is a jealous spirit and
Can't share his own with the world
So he must declare your end,
Even though bitter tears we cry,
He must call back home his
Own through a heavy goodbye,
And our bitter tears speak of
Ignorance and a jealousy,
For now heaven you enjoy the glory thereof,
While us here on dying earth
Are left and must with zeal
Wait and long for our death,
All must and all will one day
Say that final goodbye and
Be with joy there on our way,
And that road from Israel
Is paved with good intentions,
My friend, praise Emmanuel,
Thou temperate and sweet!
Good God! We thank you
For the gift of death indeed!
