Deep Enough to Bleed

Oh I need your attention, some affection
But no protection
Oh I need your dedication
Some complication

When the morning comes
The night's dreams will be lost
Those who are damaged and wrong
I'll leave their beds
And head to god knows where
Go for your heart instead

But we'll be alright
Cause I only cut deep enough to bleed
You'll be alright
Cause it's not me that you need

I see you in their eyes
It's me that they despise
Don't you dare cry
Cause your eyes take me to the sky
My innocence is yours
Your looks and your lures

I don't need your permission
Just competition
I need your submission
Without condition
You want to give your heart
You know I've loved you from the start

I only cut deep enough to bleed
Cause it's not me that you need

poet Henry David Thoreau

Whate'er we leave to God, God does,
And blesses us;
The work we choose should be our own,
God leaves alone.
