Demons Poem by Judith DaviesWebb

Demons

Rating: 5.0

I watch the pain you feel
when you have the need to feed your craving.
It hurts me as much as it hurts you
every tremble, every shake and every cramp
runs through my body, as it does yours.

With Hendrix and a purple haze
I watch you slowly relax as your demon is fed.
My heart cries out STOP but I know it is fruitless
you have a need stronger than your need for me
but I am here for you, to hold your hand
to hold your head and cradle you in sleep.

Life goes on and so will ours
pursued by this black demon, this monkey.
My wish is to kill the demon
but will I kill you and our love too?
Only the Gods know and they ain’t telling us.

You say your need for me is stronger than the demon
but I can see the fault in this.
When the demon is fed you sing and laugh,
when you have the craving,
silence and sadness are your constant companions
each smile an effort.

I push you away when I really want you,
need you to touch me and give your sweet love,
your touch, your kiss are my craving.
Your love and laughter banish my demon
and lift the blackness that engulfs me.

I have felt your pain run through me.
You have and never will feel mine, my pain is hidden deep, deep inside.
“It” will never surface again, never shared
“It” is my demon and it craves my life.
“It” nearly got it’s wish once but I fight on,
I fight it every day with every new dawn.
The nights are worst but with you lying beside me
“It” is held at bay.

Cleanse yourself, my darling love, of this curse
your one remaining demon
of the many that have passed,
anger, angst and chemicals,
this fermented poison that kills me too!
This evil presence that eats our love.
Banish it, my love, in the name of our love.

this poem is deep to the core.. and the way you portrayed it was brilliantly haunting... to have someone you love so much be so damaged, and you know you can't kill his demons for him, even though you do anything in your power to try.. this is an incredible poem

A touching piece, the heart of love touched in every line, understanding the worries and pain of such love, yet still both hearts are strong
