Desert Sands/ When The World Spoke Silence Poem by R. L. Allen

Desert Sands/ When The World Spoke Silence

Ever since that day,
the whole world has been
soaked in silence.
Morning birds open
their bursting beaks
to sing
tuneless and soundless
melodies
that ring in my heart
as if silent bells are
chiming on a distant
hill
in a different
universe.

But,
as the year ages
the silence gets
younger
and the
singing
gets
louder.
And, as the
summer
approaches, the silence
will fade into
a gentle whisper,
the gulf between
us a mere
crack in the desert sands.

30th November 2010.
