Desire Poem by Masa MbathaOpasha

Desire

DESIRE

What was it that I desired?
In my dreams
I knew the answer well
like the tickling instants
of my very own breath…
Bewilderment of life for life itself,
drops of magic in every touch,
the loud dance of flesh over flesh
and deep within,
a silent escape from boredom
and loneliness.
What is it that I ever desired
more than the responsibility
of breathing?
Was it sex?
Knowledge?
Power?
Love?
No, none of these and all…
I was looking for the sap,
the marrow of existence!
In every journey,
every encounter or separation,
every hello or goodbye,
every tear or smile
shooting towards me
from the future
like thin arrows in a peaceful war...
In every country,
every language known or unknown,
every culture big or small,
every race and every face…
that ever wore the sorrows
of God like a gown!
I wanted to live beyond
life and death,
beyond time and space,
in the sweetest inner labyrinths
that only migrants know!
