Despite What Poem by Francis Duggan

Despite What

Despite what the arrogant and the negative might say
Each person important in their own way
The facts tell us we all are equal and the facts never lie
Since sooner or later we all have to die.

No matter what our culture or gender or religion or race
We are born to die that's a truth we must face
Some die young whilst others live on for to grow old and gray
But for everyone there is a last night and day.

As for your life's achievements that's another thing
But 'tis best you leave others your praises to sing
The good things of you leave others to recall
And if you cannot say kind things of others say nothing at all.

Since 'tis the same fate they eventually share
The pauper is equal to the billionaire
We are born as mortals death awaits us all
And to the scythe of the Reaper we eventually fall.
