DIFFERENT IS UNIQUE


Woke from a horrid nightmare.
I was being bullied by people I knew, 
bullied by the many, not the few,

where I was scared but nobody cared
where name calling was nothing new.

I had my glasses smashed

And my hopes dashed
I was called four eyes, queer, poof and
 I was lashed

With my own belt from my school shorts

They didn't care what i thought

I am a human, just a boy
I feel and I fear, living without joy

Who can I tell without being ashamed
I know these bullies must be named.

I can't tell anyone what they say

Cause then people might know that I'm gay

I'm just a teenager, finding who I am

But you don't care, you don't give a damn

One day you'll grow up and realise what
You did

Bullied me daily so in the end I hid

My feelings away for the final school years

Until when I left it ended in tears

I tried to take my own life

To stop all the pain

I wasn't going to let them hurt me again

But someone saw me at the station

My heart started to thump

As the train was pulling in

I was ready to jump

I was pulled back from the edge

By a stranger - a man

He saved my life and he gave me a plan

To share what I'd been through
To not be afraid
To tell a friend or an adult

All that I knew

That I kept locked inside 
since I was seven

And I dreamed every day 
that I could be in heaven

So I'm sharing with you
In the hope you will share

This message on your timeline or wall

And help victims stand tall.

I don't want to be famous

I just want people to care

About how it feels to be bullied

And live in fear

Day after day

Year after year

Now you're an adult 
you can understand

You did nothing wrong 

You're not on remand

Your sentence has ended

You've been acquitted

Because you had fight

And you admitted

You were bullied and beaten

And in speaking out 
The bullies lost their power

Their gang broken, no longer could they shout.

To raise awareness,

And not just for a season

I want this message to go global

So can you be noble

Who needs to be part of a clique

Of insecure children who gang up 
Together

To bully the powerful not the weak

Cause the victims have the power
If only they would speak

Bullies are the victims
Of their own insecurity

So they take it out on someone else

Cause they can't show maturity
