Disregarded Town Poem by D.N. Rebb

Disregarded Town

We're unavoidably born in an objective world less prepared
Like a member of a modern-day Bloomsbury Group to compare
As the sharp tongues withstand the blankest of all penetrating stares
I'm the mayor for this disregarded town

City's key's been duplicated numerous times without a goal
The surplus wealth shows of fine clothes n' ideal choice in alcohol
No one screws with you if you're freely standing arrogantly tall
I'm the mayor for this disregarded town

If you can't kiss yourself in the mirror, don't expect others to
Those whose salaries generate grime under fresh manicured news
While now and then flaunting condescending pity out o' the blue
I'm the mayor for this disregarded town

Even the finest floozies from the east side know how to upstage
Mustn't ask council's hired men, as it'll be on morning's front page
Don't give me your two cents worth if that is all you got in spare change
I'm the mayor for this disregarded town

Fact is, we got profitable casinos with watered down drinks
And dim private back rooms you can enter with the right secret wink
Above the door's a painting of crucified Jesus done in ink
I'm the mayor for this disregarded town

Neighboring townspeople midst shopkeepers go on their merry way
A glooming work of fiction dispatched for theatrical display
Now don't jump to conclusions, and judge our novel society
I'm the mayor for this disregarded town

So, pleased to meet you, I do hope you can stay a little longer
After sun set, the hairs at the back of your neck will be stronger
As you will discover there is always room for new hatemongers
I'm the mayor for this disregarded town
