Distance Love Poem by Victoria Ayres

Distance Love

He loved her from a distance
Cradling her softly in his mind, always just out of reach
For he knew that if he held her, he would break her
The raging passion held back by the dam of distance
The volatile mix of the gentle embers of love and the streaming gasoline of jealousy
The turmoil brewing just below his skin lashing out towards all who wander too close
He knew he could not have her
So he loved her through the screen
Caressed her through photographs
And empowered her through firm belief in her goodness coupled with a silver tongue
And as ink struck paper yet again he reached for her through words he could never tell her
Of his dreams of the gentle featherlight caresses of whispered breath in the darkness
And he hoped she knew that this story was shaped for her
Built only for her to understand
As the waves of loneliness flew from the pages and nestled in her heart
A single tear escaped him as the fire burnt out and the jealousy faded into emptiness.
