Do Not Ask Me Poem by Francis Duggan

Do Not Ask Me

Do not ask me what is good or not good poetry since to pass judgement on such I am not qualified
That is the job of the paid literary critics in their knowledge of literature they take a great pride
A poet to one to another is a poetaster that's how it is and how it will always be
Though I have my opinions I am not a judge of writers since I do not have a literary degree
Are you a poet or not why should it matter as long as you give poetry your best try
If you feel you are a poet within your own mind the title of poet to you should apply
'Tis said by some that poets are born and not made with that you either do or do not agree
And if you feel that you are a poet then you will not have an argument on that from me
And since I am not the one who can judge you I am not the one that you have to impress
Though I wish you well with your writing and I wish you literary success
In the World are billions of writers who are all so important to the great Wordsmith trade
Though only a small percentage are destined to be successful or seen as worthy of making the grade
You may be rated as amongst the best local writers amongst the top five in your own Hometown
Though from there you may have some way for to climb to the summit of literary renown.
