Do Not Resuscitate Poem by Bethan Ackerley

Do Not Resuscitate

Rating: 5.0

Beep beep,
Beep beep,
The beeps are sending me to sleep,
Sickly stench,
Peeling paint,
Break me free of these restraints,
Broken heart,
Broken soul,
I’ve lost all sense of control,
Windows bleak,
Lifestyle dreary,
Living like this makes me weary,

Don’t you know,
Can’t you see,
This exposure’s killing me,
Crippling drugs,
Keep me sedate,
Do not resuscitate,

Smile for me,
I’m just finding my way in the black,
It’s just the way it’s supposed to be,
It’s shown me what my half life lacks,
I don’t wanna hear you say,
The symptoms will abate,
Just let me have my way,
Do not resuscitate,

Keeping me alive is just another way of dying,
I’m in great pain but I gotta keep trying,
Every day and night I see you crying,
You see, it’s on you that I’m relying,

You I don’t want to die,
But I don’t want to have to fight no more,
It’s time to say goodbye,
You’re the one I’m living for,
This isn’t some kind of suicide,
I just want to die naturally,
After I’ve died,
You’ll find someone eventually,

Smile for me,
Laugh with me,
Let me fade,
Like it was supposed to be,
And I’ll always smile for you,
