Do Not Wake Me Poem by Reshad Scott

Do Not Wake Me

Rating: 5.0

Do not wake me if it wasn't meant to be,
and do not say you're sorry as you turn your back and leave.
Let me lie here as you venture off to a new setting
and begin your story as if it started off with a wedding.

Do not look back as you walk down that aisle
for you may not return back far from this exile.
And take his hand and let go of mine,
so please say I do and you'll be refined.

Make love to him as you have done me so,
and give him children so he won't grow.
Take care of your children as you have taken care of me,
so one day they'll venture off and start their own family tree.

And as you grow old I'd want you to remember,
that you had left me in that bed that one day in September.
So don't live your final days asking for my forgiveness,
and don't spend your time trying to settle some unfinished business.

For I'd be gone too and soon you will be,
and for your last words, it would read
"I wish I'd stayed with thee".
