Do You Know What It's Like? Poem by Christine Sears

Do You Know What It's Like?

Do you know what it's like
To wake up and pray to fall asleep again?
Just so I don't have to face the day,
I close my eyes and say 'Amen.'

I'm tired of dealing with your remarks;
You don't realize how much they hurt.
I don't let it show because I'm embarrassed,
But these horrible feelings are hard to divert.

I know you'll never understand how I feel.
I might try to explain but you'll just never know
All the things I bottle up inside
The many emotions I choose not to show.

Don't ever assume you know someone
Because something will always be hiding
Under the surface, out of your reach,
Because feelings are always abiding.
