Do You Really Want Another Love? Poem by Gordon D Wilkinson

Do You Really Want Another Love?

Tears stain blood-drained cheeks
Cracking to a marbled speckled glow
Ravaged by sorrowful words
Heaving the breast to stuttering sobs
Gasping with grief
Love has hastened away
Run its course
Now faded into the past
Let go, heal the wounded soul
Replenish passion for another
Love that is still to cross into your world
A new beginning
Be ready to grasp and start again
Another cold nose that nuzzles your ear
Dribbling down your cheek
The wet sandpaper that scrapes your chin
Trying to wash all your make-up off
All those hairs that attach themselves to your clothes
Turning black sweaters into comb teeth sweepings
A bundle of joy, watering the kitchen floor
Placing hazards everywhere
Ripped and chewed the morning newspaper
Wonder, what happened to the letters page?
All those wonderful things
Everything you enjoy and love
Yes, all those dirty paw marks too
Dirty muddy streaks down the white skirt
Oh, I know you love it
Even when you slide along, sitting down hard
You will have to check better in future
I will go get it now
You will get your new puppy today
