Doe Eyes Poem by Lauren Harper

Doe Eyes

Time went by and I was kept mesmerized looking at you with doe eyes,
Doe eyes, I was the doe, gazing at you.
My eyes fixed on you.
You the hunter,
locked eyes with me,
But you saw nothing but feast,
Doe equals wild beast,
Wild beast.
wild beast.
Wild feast.
Your trigger happy fingers tightened and fired,
Bullet released
Bullet fired
Bullet freed
How Ironic bullet freed from gun,
Gun relaxed in man's hands
Doe petrified
Doe is not released...
Doe is placed in cage
bullet sizzling in the air planted itself into my aorta
Heart pumping,
Heart trying to pump oxygen,
Oxygen, I.. can't... Breathe.
You don't understand what you did to me.
You didn't have to silence me, to make me stay
Didn't have to leave gashes to brand me yours.
Couldn't you tell from the doe-eyed way I looked into your eyes
How consumed I was.
You acted as if I didn't love you enough as if there was love being shared elsewhere.
I loved you so much I drowned in unhappiness,
My unhappiness,
Because I put everything that I was into you
And you still asked for more,
Still doubted if all my chips were in.
Two years in and you wondered if I cared.
Two years in it ends and I'm still mesmerized looking at you with doe eyes.
