Double Standards Exist Poem by Lawrence S. Pertillar

Double Standards Exist

Sold to sell done well is violence.
And praised as heros,
Are those who escape...
The chasing jaws of judgement.

Sold to sell done well is decadence.
Hypocrites will dismiss to criticize,
From podiums and pulpits.
Although the first to solict,
And defend...
As a way of life that should not offend.
Since these degradations,
Are declared entitlements.

Double standards exist.
Depending upon,
Whose interests are represented.

Double standards exist!
With this shown to be witnessed,
A diminished quality of life.
And the ones who claim it is their right,
To permit the continuation of it!

"Why do you protest?
You are not one of 'us'."

-We are not here in protest.
We are here to 'rejoice'! -

"Rejoice?
Rejoice what?
Oh...
That's right.
It's the holiday season."

-The what?
The who?
Oh...
You're right.
It 'is' the holiday season.
Happy holidays! -

"We gather together to ask the Lord's blessing."

-La la la la la lah...
La la la la lah! -

"Traditions!
Where would we be without them? "
