Doubt's Prisoner Poem by Marck Riggins

Doubt's Prisoner

Untiming, scarce chiming
it's resonant tones
Stalks like a breeze
that chills sullen bones.

Injected like poison
infecting the mind.
And so turns a season
For stumbling while blind.

The way out unsure
with reason obscure.
Stealth-bred predator
Relentless, impure.

Captive are we
to recurring stabs
Assaulting good judgment
and all that it grasps.

Come light-fed hope
through promises told
Exit these shadows
Deceptions from old

Observe now it's whimpering
whispering moans
with lessening fervor
And defeated groans

This hunter and lion
Prowls freely about
Until prey and victor
Turns it without

The spoils to a prisoner
Now thinking free...

Exposing that doubt
Was not all it could be.
