Dreams Poem by Helena Lizon

Dreams

I sit here, listening to the soundtrack of my dreams
So close I can touch them
Graze my fingers lightly across their seams
They bite back
Closing in,
Slowly they attack
Pulling me down so deep
They have deceived me
With a lie so cheap
Eternal happiness,
No more tears
No more cuts
No more screams of fears
No more worry if I will make it til tomorrow
Now I see how foolish I was
Believing in one day it could be wiped free
Know that lash out at me
Laughing, taunting, jeering
Oh silly, silly
Life only gets worse
No matter how low
No matter how much I believe
There's no down from here
Somehow the floor always disappears
And pulls me down
Repeating many painful years
The dreams are back
I reach out, so softly
Tentatively, then grasping
They fade away, I had them
But they never existed
Another delusion
A crazy illusion
There is no such thing as happy
