Driving Quickly Away Poem by Lilith Jenenji

Driving Quickly Away

I've only now become aware,
of you gently stroking my hair.
For hours and hours we've lied here,
our bodies warm and oh so near.
But then you tell me gracefully,
that you have another place to be.
Just like last night and the night before...

I plead you, beg you, just to stay,
But lately you've kept me at bay,
from your thoughts and feelings.
With what have I been dealing?
I'm not sure yet but I'll know soon...

When you leave I follow you in my car,
We end up driving pretty far.
The lamposts shine in the darkness,
The lake we stop by is smooth and markless,
And I spot a woman waiting there...

You greet her warmly, with a beautiful smile,
Her flowy hair seems to go for a mile.
Then you kiss her, more and more.
My eyes slowly slip to the floor.
I get in my car and drive quickly away...

The next mornings papers' headlines:
Gruesome Carcrash, Woman Propelled into Headlights...
