Driving West Poem by Vincent Cibelli

Driving West

In the sweat drenched summer, my love
Backseat drivng stoned alone
250 thousand america miles
In a wind blown beat life's prizm
Fiddlin' draggin blockin' fondlin'
Outer space, conservatives, socialists
Pretty faces, places I'm not or I'm going.
Tomorrow, right now: a mile marker
Yesterday's rear view mirrored
And closer than it appear's view.
A lead foot only hides my dirty socks
From superman's eyes.
I cannot out run the sun; but hide in sleep
I am that sun, the earth is still the world
My arm me-burnt fingering the burning smoke
I laugh almost crying about the time
I awoke from a mushroom clouded sleep
You'd wandered all night in saintly madness
Danced, laughed, postioning for future romance
And fell with the rising of the sun
By my side again we laughed till we cried
I arose, you slept, fond moments
That I, when with my mind, wont forget.
Then again the music floods, freakin' swingin' love
Thumpin', bobbin' and fast flying free
Transcending suffering, Im kissing god
The dance, the river, the universe
For now is my passsanger.
