Drought Beyond Doubt Poem by Gautam Sen

Drought Beyond Doubt

A drought beyond doubt
appeared with a deep void,
walled me at my wits end.
Some ill will of a devil
dispersed you forcibly-
disjointed and disconnected,
from all earthly belongings -
love, attachment, and bindings.

On this day- just a little over
two decades back,
your big blooming eyes
were full of dreams
of a realm of happiness,
with a promise of a nice life ahead.

All were set for you;
lots of love you received,
your reception of life with love
pleased everybody all around.
But the beauty of your soul,
your enviable simplicity,
untiring smile and the spirit of life
just acted against you,
gathered ominous threats
as enemies in disguise
whom you still tackled befittingly.

As a housewife,
You brought life to our house,
as a mother
had immeasurable prides,
yet used your prudence
to control your tide of joys
and tried to hide them every time.

As a host of welcome
you maintained till your end,
so the guests still consider
you as a legend.
You became foe to none,
only remained as a lovable friend.

The whole day
I passed in commemoration,
be there in my memories' oceanic tide
as an oyster-encased shiny pearl
deep down the ocean bed;
let me feel you in a different way
as I dive and dip into
the depth of your emotion.
