Dumb Lover Poem by Daniel Y.

Dumb Lover

Romeo, Romeo, O my witless Romeo!
Thy mother should have cut thy tongue!
Such poison does exude your lips.
A kiss killèd Juliet, murderous Montague.

By thy romping and thy jousting lust,
you did o’er perch these walls,
to steal the flower of another man.
“Anon! ” the Death, star-crossèd calls.

You knew the feud, of fam’ly plagued.
You knew the bard, forbade you two.
You knew the love of Capulet sworn.
Wherefore thy drew, and Tybalt slew?

You play the fool, a prince’s stool.
An asses head, but not fairy hexed.
If she had known thine fated offense
would she by th’ book have kiss’d?

Thy passion was most green and callow.
You’ve cuckold’ fast and married quick.
Dost thou by holy wed then become hallow?
Dost the paramour show an ounce of wit?

Nay! Villain!
I bite my thumb at thee!
Verona hath no civility.
No fore thought nor scene.
To spite the Prince’s charms and pleas
‘Twas kindred blood made hands unclean.

Our toil wasted on the stage.
May the lovers love outlast the age.
Yet how fast and brightly candle burned
and left a useless puddle.
