an early summer night
a warm humid night
in the stillness of dusk
after the wind dropped
had breathed expired last breath
had dropped the skeletal wing
detached from dragonfly carcass
in twilight dusk strange stillness
before deepens dark coal black
darkness swallowed all sight land
a single sign firefly rose in flight
lantern yellow spark light flashed
firefly body solemn black
pale stripes down wing plates
wears colorful shield hung
behind beetle small tiny head
firefly a warrior in flit flight
fighting darkness absolute night
bioluminescent insect orb light
flight in timeless eternities
a phoenix spectral light
fills darkness in delight
eye smiles tracking light
a will-o'-wisp darting light
