Either Way It Goes Poem by Lawrence S. Pertillar

Either Way It Goes

What it is I want.
And like to have.
As I live my life to feel deserving,
Of it.
Is not for you to decide,
What satisfies my wants and wishes.
You may assist with suggestions made.
And I don't object,
To options you recommend.
However...
Whatever direction,
On a path I take with steps to make.
With or without mistakes.
Lessons to learn will be mine to earn.
To accept and not excuse.

What it is I want.
With it owned to claim.
Either way it goes.
Is not going to change anytime soon.
To leave me and not you,
Satisfied with the effort to endeavor.

So...
Either way it goes,
With us both left to know...
My life to decide,
How it will be lived...
May not be what you like or propose.
But still it is my life.
With or without your blessing to give.

"Wow!
I just want the best for you.
That's all."

And I don't?
Your best to accept,
May not be my quest.
Although I respect your opinions and suggestions.

"And,
I respect that."

Good!
Now let's keep that respect,
To expect and accept it.
Either way it goes.
To show and not neglect it for what it is.
