Eleanor’s 90th Poem by Andrew Fincham

Eleanor’s 90th

Our meeting’s matriarch
(the softly offered appellation fits
like felted haberdashery)
sits upright in accustomed place
slight radiance of long resilient thought
contained within the simple wicker frame

Adopts the silence
Rises
(gloved left hand strong held
by firm familiar right)

To gather
Friends as old as new
Towards that which we seek to know

We meet to grow the spirit of the God
Who lives in all
To be together
That we cannot always be alone

Our Friends remind us
of the purpose of a prayer
And in the velvet silence
following
one tries to find a way
to extol God.

We celebrate the living link
Between our thoughts and
Love of all friends past
And are renewed in faith:

The soul is sure

The engine of our daily life.
