Elegy For Life Poem by hmimi djamel

Elegy For Life

Day.
Angry waves of the sea
Threatening the solid rocks of my castle.
No more horror to see
Than the slaughter of a whole cattle.
You are like an empty room;
Only poisonous air and the fear
To be your man or your groom
At your side the deaths bells I hear.
You are the day, you are my hated shade.
Night.
Ship’s crew happy for its brief safety.
Men of all ages drinking for the present glory.
And, I the captain, alone with my ghosts
Begging the winds to bring me to the coasts
I am the night but not my men’s fate
And between day and night
In the distant sight, I knew who you are:
The twenty fifth hour or a moment of life.
