Empathic Propensity Poem by eeel lee

Empathic Propensity

I'm right in front of you,

Didn't you notice?

I asked you questions,

I showed you that I care,

I listened to your problems,

And when I spoke briefly about myself,

You just looked through me with an uninterested glare…

They come to me like a swarm of flesh flies,

They are drawn to me, that's no surprise.

They tell me what they think I want to hear,

I can't be fooled,

I see past their lies.

It's just hard you know,

When the inhospitable people keep on showing,

When my awareness keeps on growing,

But my purity never stops flowing.

I care about people,

More than you'll ever understand,

But when the hamster wheel keeps on turning,

I just can't see where I stand.

I want to have faith in humanity,

Fidelity,

A balanced mentality.

So I can elevate,

So I can live happily.

It's just hard you know

When the inhospitable people keep on showing

When my awareness keeps on growing

But my purity never stops flowing
