Escape Poem by Jason Creviston

Escape

On my way. Leaving today.
You never would hear out a word I would say.
With or without it, I doubt it could change.
May the request be too out of range?
Away from the game. I feel like you're playing.
I'm not a controller. I never complain
When you're pressing my button. I'm under the pressure.
I want to be better. Enough with the lecture.
It's ineffective - You're making it tough.
The intellect above physical stuff.
I'm calling my bluff. I know where I'm going.
Nobody was home. All alone with the phone
And then left my own message right after the tone.
Collective perspective is yet to be known.
Don't throw me the bone. I'm proud of my best.
Rewriting the wrong. (Surrounding the rest)
Questioning every possible reason.
I figure I probably ought to believe in
Nobility, hope, and ability.
Will it be literally only irritability?
Our reality- Live it deliberately.
What did we ever let happen to liberty?
Withering misery. Bit of a mystery.
Seemingly near the repeating of history.
Visibly beaten. Residual freedom.
We need to defeat individual demons.
We feed it- the greed- and we'll never relieve it.
There'll be no relief, when the leaders reveal it.
Appealing- Their deal- They make with the fake.
Deceptively thrilling. They're killing to take.
And we will break eventually.
Hopefully out of it. (Maybe we'll see)
Getting off track. A little offbeat.
The faster I write it, the quicker I leave
I can be slicker than slippery shoes.
Ever so cleverly feathering through.
What do I do? How do I choose?
Do I have something left for me to lose?
Inevitable. Where do I run?
I'm better off now and I'll never be done.
No, I will not hide. Yes, I am beside it.
I'll find my own way and I'll hope I survive it.
I'll be my own guide. Might fight it forever-
And if I die- Well, I tried it. Whatever.
